Heroes Help Heroes: A Louisiana Mission ⚜️
Sometimes, need doesn't stop at state lines.
Mississippi Heroes was built to serve caregivers and families right here in our state, and that mission isn't changing. But when we got a call about two little girls just across the Louisiana border fighting a rare and terminal illness, we knew we had to respond. Donate to this ramp build here!

Meet Mattie and Mary Lala of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Both sisters are living with Hurler Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that's robbing them of mobility one day at a time. Mattie, 10, struggles to climb stairs now due to hip weakness. Mary, 6, has already survived a stroke and will soon need hip surgery. Both girls are losing their ability to walk independently, and their family's home has steps they can't navigate much longer.
This ramp will be done with the help of LikeMinded Ladies NOLA. Many thanks to their President, Laila Morcos-Zissis and team for helping make this happen.

Here's why this mission matterS
and why it doesn't take away from Mississippi families:
Louisiana has already secured the funding, the builders, the volunteers, and the construction team. They don't need Mississippi Heroes to raise money or build the ramp. What they need is our organizational expertise, our network, and our heart. We're lending a hand to neighbors who are doing the heavy lifting themselves.
Our Mississippi families come first. Every dollar donated specifically to Mississippi Heroes stays in Mississippi. Every ramp request from our state remains our top priority. This Louisiana mission is happening in addition to our work here—not instead of it.
But we believe in showing up when community calls. St. Bernard Parish rallied for their own. They're fundraising. They're volunteering. They're building. And when a community works that hard for two little girls who've already beaten impossible odds, we're not going to turn away just because of a state line.
This is what heroes do. We help. We show up. We build access and dignity wherever it's needed most.
If you'd like to support Mattie and Mary's ramp specifically, you can contribute directly to their Louisiana fundraising efforts. If you'd like to support Mississippi families, donate to Mississippi Heroes as you always have—and know that 100% of your Mississippi-designated gifts stay right here, building ramps for our neighbors.
